Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative (CVEC) and the Seminole American Legion invite the community to come together for a meaningful evening of patriotism, remembrance, and fellowship at the 26th Annual Dignified Disposal of Unserviceable American Flags Ceremony on Tuesday, October 13th, 2026.
The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. at CVEC Headquarters, located at 11277 North Highway 99 in Seminole, and everyone is welcome to attend. Before the ceremony, complimentary hot dogs, chips, cookies, and drinks will be served beginning at 5 p.m., giving community members an opportunity to gather, visit with one another, and enjoy an evening together.
This annual event provides an important opportunity to respectfully retire American flags that are no longer serviceable while teaching younger generations about the significance of our nation’s flag and the importance of honoring it with dignity.
As part of the event, CVEC also hosts an essay contest for middle and high school students throughout the cooperative’s service area. This year’s essay topic asks students, “Why is taps played for the raising & lowering of the American flag?” 1 middle school student and one high school student will each receive a $250 scholarship, and the winning students will be invited to read their essays during the ceremony.
CVEC is proud to partner with the Seminole American Legion to continue this long-standing tradition and provide an opportunity for our communities to come together in support of our students, our veterans and the values represented by the American flag.
Whether you have attended for years or this will be your first time, we encourage you to bring your family, friends, and neighbors and join us for this special evening. Mark your calendar for October 13th and come help us honor the flag and celebrate the communities we are proud to serve. It is an outdoor-only event.
