Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative is a member-owned utility governed and directed by a board of trustees. The geographical territory is divided into eight districts, relatively equal in population. Members of each district elect a member to represent them as a trustee for a three-year term without term limits. Each year following the filing period, should there be a need for an election, the cooperative will arrange a district meeting at a location in the district, and voting will be held in person. Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative has been blessed to have many great people willing to serve their constituents, the cooperative, and their communities over the last eight-plus decades. We look forward to many great years to come.

Members interested in running for a position on CVEC's Board of Trustees must file a notice of candidacy.

The bylaws of CVEC state in Article IV, Section 5, c) NOTICE OF CANDIDACY:

Members of a district desiring to be candidates for election as a trustee from that district and meeting the qualifications outlined in Section 2 of this Article shall file with the cooperative written notice, on a form provided by the cooperative, of this candidacy and intention to stand for election to the office of the trustee from their district not less than twenty-five (25) days nor more than thirty (30) days before the meeting of members of said district. However, filing periods set for the trustee districts are provided if the last day for filings is Saturday, Sunday, or a legal holiday. The filing period shall be extended until 5:00 p.m. on the first business day after that.

Only persons filing a written notice of their candidacy and intention to stand for election shall be eligible.

Mike Matlock

Hello, I’m Mike Matlock, and I’m honored to be a candidate for the Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative Trustee position in District Seven. I’ve been a proud Co-op member for over 37 years and have had the privilege of serving on the Canadian Valley Roundup Foundation Board for the past 12 years.

My desire to serve is deeply rooted in the final line of the FFA Motto: “Living to Serve.” With a servant’s heart, I’ve dedicated my life to helping others—as a pastor, agricultural education teacher, Oklahoma CareerTech administrator, and active board member. Over my 44-year career in education, I’ve served on numerous boards and currently sit on three.

My love and understanding of cooperatives began with my father, who was the manager of the local Co-op in Okemah. It grew even more as I competed in cooperative speech contests as an FFA member. Today, there are over 1,600 agricultural cooperatives nationwide, serving the vital needs of our rural communities. These cooperatives stay strong only through progressive leadership that keeps the members at the forefront.

I will represent you not only as a fourth-generation agriculturist, but also as a lifelong farmer and rancher. My strong relationships with current legislators will give our cooperative a meaningful voice at both the state and national levels.
