ANNUAL FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY & SCHOLARSHIP
25th Annual Dignified Disposal Of Unserviceable American Flags Ceremony

The American Legion of District #4, in combination with Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative (CVEC) in Seminole, has scheduled the 25th Annual Dignified Disposal of Unserviceable American Flags ceremony on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025. Therefore, we are once again inviting all middle and high school students in the CVEC service area to enter our contest by submitting a one-page essay titled:
"The American Flag & it’s Role in Military Traditions"
We ask that students explain how the American flag is used during military ceremonies, memorials, and as a symbol of sacrifices made.
Two prizes will be awarded: one to a middle school student and the other to a high school student. This year, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Flag Retirement Ceremony, each winner will be presented with a $500.00 scholarship! In addition, the winning students will be requested to read their essays at the ceremony.
Please encourage all of your students to write and submit their essays via mail or email to the following:

Please ensure the cover sheet is filled out and submitted with each essay. Students will write their names, schools, and grades on their essays. The essays must be postmarked or received by midnight Friday, September 26th, 2025. Winners will be contacted by Tuesday, Oct. 7th, 2025.
The ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, at CVEC Headquarters, 11277 HWY 99 Seminole, OK, and is open to the public. Please invite all of your students to attend. We will serve complimentary hot dogs, chips, cookies, and drinks starting at 5pm.
